Ilsington Community Shop Newsletter No.2 -
February 2010
With
Christmas now something of a distant memory – it’s back to business plans
and fund raising!
We
have now raised over £2500 and sold 75 shares to date. The roof slate scheme,
in which we are offering the once in a lifetime opportunity of “buying” a
slate (or several) for £2 each which will then be inscribed with your name
before being hung on the new roof, has so far ensured there will be at least 50
slates in place with only another 2,450 to go before we can be sure of keeping
the rain out!
Although
there is major funding available for projects such as ours, it is hugely
dependant on a strong show of local support and involvement so please help get
your shop and village meeting room up and running.
Fund
Raising Events
We
are planning to organise some fund raising events over the coming months and
would appreciate as much support as possible - if anyone has any ideas for a
good fund raising function - either one you would like to run yourself or a
suggestion for the committee - please let us know! Details of the
forthcoming events will be posted on the Ilsington website -www.ilsingtonparish.co.uk
- , advertised locally and in the Parish Magazine.
Just
to reiterate the ways you can help make this whole thing happen;
Become
a Shareholder
All Community Shops must have “shareholders” - namely anyone wishing to buy a share in the shop. Share sales, whilst not a major fundraiser, provide the first all-important bedrock of local involvement. The shares cost £5 each and can be bought by as many members of the household as would like them. Even if a recent win on the Euro Lottery means you generously choose to buy several thousand shares - each individual is still only entitled to one vote. Being a shareholder gives you a stake in your local shop and the right to attend the Annual General Meeting and have a say in how the shop is run.
We
are also looking for some professional help/advice from accountants, architects
and solicitors and would be very grateful to hear from you if there are any
suitably qualified souls out there willing to give us a bit of time. If so,
please contact either Sue Norris on 01364-661128 or Alan Hobbs on
01364‑661576.
If
you would like to make a donation or buy shares or slates, please click here
to download a Share Application Form.
For
more information and progress reports please look at the village website: www.ilsingtonparish.co.uk
or the village hall website: www.ilsingtonvillagehall.co.uk.
The
Community Shop and the meeting room will be a huge benefit both for individuals
and the village as a whole so I do hope you feel you can help make this happen.
